Mudahnya procedure adalah sebuah langkah atau cara membuat sesuatu, melakukan sesuatu, atau mengoprasikan sesuatu. Misalnya cara membuat nasi goreng, membuat kue, cara mengoprasikan computer, cara membasmi nyamuk, dsb. Itulah gambaran singkatnya tentang procedure text. Biar lebih paham, baca penjelasan berikut..

Definition of Procedure Text

Procedure is a text that shows a process in order. Its social function is to describe how something is completely done through a sequence of series.

(Prosedur adalah teks yang menunjukkan suatu proses secara urut. Fungsi sosialnya adalah untuk menggambarkan bagaimana sesuatu benar-benar dilakukan melalui runtutan langkah.)

Or (atau)

(1)Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction / operation manuals e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax.
(2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity e.g. recipes, rules for games, science experiments, road safety rules.
(3) Texts that deal with human behaviour eg how to live happily, how to succeed.

Generic Structure of Procedure Text

# Goal : It is containt the purpose of the text. (e.g : How to make spagheti)
# Material or Ingredient : it is containt of the materials that used in the process. (e.g : the material to cook omelette are egg, onion, vegetable oil, etc. )
# Step : it is containt of the steps to make something in the goal. (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion, …., second cut the onions becomes slice. . . )

Purpose of Procedure Text

– To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence of actions or steps.
– To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something

The Characteristics / Language Feature of Procedure Text

– Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the last)
– Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the onion. . ., wash the tomatoes. . . )
– Using action verb
– Using Simple Present Tense

Example of Procedure Text

HOW TO MAKE FRIED BANANA

INGREDIENTS :
1 ripe black-skinned plantain or 4 small finger banana (make sure that the banana is sweet) (1 pisang matang berkulit hitam atau 4 jari kecil pisang (pastikan bahwa pisang manis))
1 egg
1 tsp. sugar
6 Tbs. flour
water
a pinch of salt (sedikit garam)
vegetable oil for deep frying (minyak sayur untuk menggoreng)

STEPS / INSTRUCTION :
Place flour in a deep mixing bowl. Make a well in the middle of the flour, and add egg, sugar and salt. Add water little by little. Whisk vigorously until batter is evenly smooth for coating and not too thin. If it is too thin, add more flour. (Tempatkan tepung dalam mangkuk yang dalam. Buat sebuah lubang di tengah tepung, dan tambahkan telur, gula dan garam. Tambahkan air sedikit demi sedikit. Kocok kuat-kuat sampai adonan merata halus untuk melapisi (pisang) dan tidak terlalu encer. Jika terlalu encer, tambahkan tepung.)

Peel plantain or banana and cut in half lengthwise and then cut again with 4-inch width. Dip into batter to coat generously. (Kupas pisang dan potong setengah memanjang dan kemudian potong lagi dengan lebar 4 inci. Celupkan ke dalam adonan untuk dilapisi dengan pelan-pelan)

Heat oil in a deep fryer until moderately hot. Place coated plantain or banana in the wok or deep fryer and fry slowly until golden brown and crispy. This usually takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Remove bananas from oil, drain on paper napkins and dry well. (Panaskan minyak dalam penggorengan sampai cukup panas. Tempatkan pisang yang telah dilapisi di wajan atau penggorengan dan goreng perlahan sampai berwarna cokelat keemasan dan renyah. Ini biasanya berlangsung sekitar 10-15 menit. Ambil pisang dari minyak, tiriskan pada serbet kertas dan keringkan dengan baik.)

Serve while still warm (Hidangkan selama masih hangat)

TSP = Teaspoon = Sendok Teh
TBS = Tablespoon = Sendok Makan
Plantain = banana = pisang
