Beware of Extreme Weather in These 21 Regions

Jakarta, Britishcourse.com – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) provides an early warning regarding extreme weather with moderate to heavy rainfall which is expected to occur in 21 regions in the country today, Friday (11/6/2021).

“We need to watch out for the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity which can be accompanied by lightning or thunderstorms as well as strong winds and thunderstorms in various parts of Indonesia,” said the BMKG Deputy for Meteorology.

The following is a list of BMKG early warnings for today, namely in the areas of Aceh, Banten, Bengkulu, DKI Jakarta, Jambi, West Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Lampung, North Maluku, Papua, West Papua, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, West Sumatra and South Sumatra.

The air temperature on this day ranges from 19 degrees to 34 degrees Celsius with humidity of 50-100%.

There is a low pressure center of 1009 hPa in the North Pacific Ocean of Papua and air circulation in the western Indian Ocean of West Sumatra. The wind pattern in the northern part of Indonesia is dominantly moving from southeast to southwest with wind speeds ranging from 5-25 knots.

Meanwhile, in the southern part of Indonesia, it generally moves from east to southeast at speeds ranging from 5-20 knots. The highest wind speeds were observed in the northern waters of Sabang, North Natuna Sea, southern Banda Sea, Banda Sea, Arafuru Sea, and northern waters of Papua.

Be aware of wave heights of 2.5-4 meters that are likely to occur in the northern waters of Sabang, western waters of Aceh, western waters of Simeulue Island to the Mentawai Islands, Enggano waters to Bengkulu, western waters of Lampung, western Indian Ocean of Sumatra.

Extreme weather can also occur in the western and southern parts of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of the island of Java to Sumba Island, the Indian Ocean south of Java to NTB, the southern waters of the Tanimbar Islands, and the western and central part of the Arafuru Sea.
